Whodathunkit? Apparently two males bears have been found who enjoying pleasuring themselves in a way very common amongst humans, but not other animals. That’s right, through oral sex.
While oral sex is very common in humans, it is rarely observed outside the human species. When it is it tends to be in response to a threat. Or when in stress. It is not usually used for the enjoyment or one or more of the animals.
However researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences Department of Wildlife Conservation, say they have observed two male bears engaging in fellatio with one another. They say it is the first documentation of prolonged and recurring fellatio amongst captive brown bears.
The researchers recored over 28 instances of oral sex being engaged over a period of 116 hours. The end result was always ejaculation, and there it was always the same bear who initiated it, while the other received.
“After accessing and initial licking of the penis, the provider would find a more comfortable posture, such as sitting or lying… once actual sucking started, neither bear changed position.”
“The researchers noted that it probably began as the bears were orphaned at an early age. We suggest that the behaviour began as a result of early deprivation of maternal suckling, and persisted through life, possibly because it remained satisfying for both individuals. This constitutes the first descriptive report of fellatio in bears.”
“In the case reported here, the provider may have found a substitute for teat‐sucking that also resulted in a let‐down of substitute ‘milk’.”
So there you have it. Maybe humans and bears aren’t so different. Sex doesn’t discriminate in nature it seems.
